We are very excited to announce that we have new product hPLMA PHOTOPOLYMERIZABLE HYDROGEL from our partner Metatissue. This is our next step towards reducing the need for animals in research and making human-centric models available to accurately replicate the complex microenvironment of the extracellular matrix.

hPLMA PHOTOPOLYMERIZABLE HYDROGEL is a xeno-free, animal serum-free, bioactive platelet lysates-based platform that provides physiologically relevant microenvironments for cells cultured in vitro. It is composed of several proteins, including growth factors and cytokines. These bio-active proteins are known to be key components involved in cell adhesion and proliferation processes.

Main Components

  • Serum Albumin

  • EGF Epidermal growth factor

  • PDGF Platelet-derived growth factor

  • Fibrinogen

  • VEGF Vascular endothelial growth factor

  • Complement 3

  • Serotransferrin

Realistic tTumor-like Environments

hPLMA is manufactured from platelet units obtained from screened healthy donors designated for therapeutic transfusion. Each donor undergoes testing, and non-reactivity is
confirmed for HBsAg, anti-HBc, anti-HIV-1/2, anti-HCV, anti-HTLV-1/2, anti-T. cruzi, HIV-1, HCV, HBV, WNV nucleic acid testing, and syphilis micro hemagglutination assay.

hPLMA is chemically modified with photoresponsive groups to polymerize only when exposed to ultraviolet (UV) or visible light. Therefore, a photoinitiator is required to initiate the polymerization process.

The mechanical tunability, of the product will allow researchers to fine-tune stiffness and crosslinking using light-based techniques. The applications of hydrogels are as diverse as the challenges they address. From 3D cell culture to tissue engineering, from disease modeling for drug discovery to cancer research, these hydrogels serve as versatile platforms fostering innovation and discovery. They enable the creation of realistic tumor-like environments, facilitate stem cell proliferation, drive tissue morphogenesis, and maintain tissue homeostasis.

By enhancing the accuracy of in vitro preclinical studies, they have the potential to reduce drug development costs and accelerate time to market, thereby bringing life-saving treatments to patients more swiftly. By adhering to the 3R principles (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement), it is also committed to the ethical implementation of research practices by supporting the welfare of animals in science.
