With Ceglu™ cultureware you get stem cell plates that come pre-coated, sterile and ready to use – no protein coating, no thawing of matrix aliquots, no waiting time before seeding. Because the cell-adhesive polymer is completely synthetic, it contains no animal-derived components and stays stable at room temperature. Ceglu™ multiwell plates (6-well, 96-well) and 100 mm dishes support iPSCs, ESCs, MSCs and many other adherent cells – from routine maintenance to differentiation.
Ceglu™ – the "cell glue" for reproducible stem cell culture
Protein-based coatings such as Matrigel®, vitronectin or laminin vary from lot to lot, need cold storage and adsorb unevenly to plastic. SEKISUI CHEMICAL developed Ceglu™ together with Kyoto University (iCeMS) and the CiRA Foundation to remove exactly these variables. The name combines cell and glue: a water-insoluble, polyvinyl-acetal-based polymer carrying a short cell-adhesive peptide, machine-coated onto the culture surface.
Animal-free & chemically defined
Fully synthetic material – no animal-origin components, no recombinant proteins. Tested for cytotoxicity with reference to USP <87>/<88> methods.
Uniform culture surface
Industrial machine coating gives an even surface (confirmed by atomic force microscopy) with minimal lot-to-lot variation – the basis for reproducible colony morphology and growth.
Room-temperature stable
According to SEKISUI's stability data, Ceglu™ keeps its performance for one year at room temperature. No cold chain, no freezer space, no matrix preparation.
Ready to use
Open the plate, add medium and seed. Passage whenever your schedule allows – no coating step the day before.

Proven with your cells and media
Cell types: iPSCs, ESCs, MSCs, fibroblasts and a range of differentiated cells.
Long-term culture: iPSCs maintained in the undifferentiated state over 10 passages (50–60 days), with performance comparable to vitronectin (Shimizu et al., Sci Rep 2022).
Differentiation: trilineage (all three germ layers), cardiomyocytes, hepatoblasts, neural progenitors, dopaminergic neurons, astrocytes, hematopoietic progenitors and monocytes. Users also report better adhesion of epithelial cells during longer differentiation protocols.
Media: works with common iPSC media such as StemFit® AK02N/AK03N, StemFlex™, Essential 8™, TeSR™-E8™ and mTeSR™1.
Passaging: compatible with both enzymatic and chelating (EDTA-type) dissociation reagents.
Built for the step from lab to clinic.
The same Ceglu™ polymer is used from 96-well plates up to bioreactors, woven and non-woven fabrics and microcarriers – so your adhesion surface does not change when you scale. Ceglu™ is registered in a U.S. FDA Drug Master File (DMF), which allows cell and gene therapy developers to reference it in IND and BLA filings. Automated culture systems also benefit: a uniform, stable surface means fewer variables for the robot to deal with.
